Start with the interior
Specify hanging space, shelf heights, drawers, shoe storage and accessories. Include ceiling height, wall dimensions, door swings and access constraints.
Agree the finish and construction
Compare door styles, panel materials, hardware and finish samples. Lighting and electrical components require a separate specification for the destination.
Prepare for installation
Have final dimensions and fixing requirements checked by your installer. Confirm assembly, labeling, packing and installation responsibilities in the order.
Walk-in closets and fitted wardrobes
A walk-in closet needs a layout for hanging, drawers, shelves and circulation. A fitted wardrobe also needs checked door clearances, fillers and the position of skirting or baseboards. Send elevations as well as the floor plan so suppliers quote the same storage arrangement.
Keep the drawing units consistent
Supply measurements in inches or millimeters and label the units clearly. Your installer should check final site dimensions, wall conditions and fixing points before approval. Record any converted dimensions in the signed drawing revision.
Confirm panels, hardware and packing
Specify board construction, exposed edges, finish samples and hardware. Agree item labels that match the room and drawing references. If lighting is included, confirm electrical requirements with your local installer before selecting components.
What measurements are needed for a custom closet?
Provide wall widths, ceiling heights, door positions and a plan showing sockets, switches and obstructions. Have your installer verify final dimensions before approving production drawings.
